Poultry meat is the second most important meat species in the European Union today. The European annual production is  approximately 11 million tons and the average consumption of about 23 kilos per capita per year.

The European poultry industry employs more than 400.000 staff across Europe, has an annual turnover of 107 billion Euros and consumes about 20% of the total EU cereal production for poultry feed and is thus of a significant economic importance.

With increasing global concerns for climate change AVEC is pleased to represent the most sustainable - cost effective and environmental friendly - meat production world wide.

AVEC is a voluntary, non-profit association created in 1966. AVEC represents and promotes the interests of the European poultry sector. Since 1966, several countries have joined the European Community. Today our members include national organisations representing poultry slaughterhouses and poultry trade in 17 EU Member States: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
AVEC represents the European poultry meat industry and seeks to find solutions to common issues. Improving the competitiveness in an ever faster changing world is vital for the European Poultry Industry united in AVEC.
In order to complete this mission AVEC follows closely the developments in international trade and market conditions and keeps a close contact with the member organisations, other European stakeholders and the EU and global institutions.

In this way AVEC makes sure that its position is taken into account in the elaboration of legislation, which may have consequences for the industry.

AVEC is a founding charter member of the International Poultry Council (IPC). IPC has been developped in October 2005 to bring together poultry industry leaders from around the world to address issues of trade, science, and improved relations among nations.
